BESA Training Operations Manager

Responsible to: Director of Training

Location: Preference would be Penrith, Cumbria but other locations will be considered

BESA TRAINING

BESA training is the training arm of the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) providing Trailblazers, (Modern) Apprenticeships, Short Course and CPD to its Members and the wider industry.

After changing its strategic model in line with the BESA’s Membership offer it is now growing in strength and coverage

We are committed to supporting our Trade Association members in the upcoming Apprenticeship Levy and in the development of Trailblazers to ensure recruitment and a competent workforce for our sector for the future.

 

The Role of the OPERATIONS MANAGER

To have specific responsibility for the day-to-day operations of BESA Training including:

  • Maintenance of Funding Contracts, Quality Assurance and Business Improvement;
  • Financial Reporting (external and Internal - working with the Management Accountant);
  • Change Management (working with the Director of Change);
  • Project and Programme Management (working with respective Project Managers);
  • Recruitment and HR (working with the Director of People and Culture);
  • Support for Apprenticeship Operations, Short Course Training development, Research and Committee reporting.

There will be extensive travel and must be willing & able to work non-standard hours as and when necessary

 

Key Duties

Reporting to the Director of Training, the post-holder is to provide overall operational effectiveness of BESA training, and to innovate, develop and maintain routes to apprenticeships, training and assessment for BESA membership and its sectors requirements.

In particular, this will include:

  • Contribute to the development of BESA Training’s strategic plans
  • Accountable for maintaining existing and developing new training products and schemes in order to secure sufficient revenue.
  • Responsible for reporting on BESA training’s targets and extending the same into nations and regions in order that targets are met and skills opportunities are realised.
  • Responsible for maintaining Quality and Audit requirements of all our training information, advice, guidance, delivery and assessment.
  • Key Performance Monitoring of BESA training development to enable accurate financial monitoring of monthly and yearly revenue derived from approvals, service provision, indirect and direct delivery of training.
  • Provide regular communication for the Director of Training and the Association Members.
  • To provide supporting functions for securing additional apprenticeship and training growth from within a wider footprint of Professional, Technical, Manufacturing, Supplier and Employment pipelines.
  • To have input to the BESA training budgets to achieve Association aspirations.
  • Build on and maintain existing strategic relationships and create external partnerships, relationships or owned schemes with Senior Management that support the training requirements and activities of the Memberships Companies.
  • To have input to operational strategy that responds to the Groups financial performance requirements (translated from business to team level).
  • To direct the delivery of a program of outputs and development, in relation to training, in accordance with the Association’s and BESA training’s strategic plan and following the guidelines established by the Association.
  • To support and drive the implementation, planning and direction of each stage of the BESA training development process:

    • Serve as programme manager on all BESA training initiatives
    • Collection and interpretation of member and non-member training information, including member needs, our offering, entry criteria, competitiveness and relevance
    • Increase numbers trained, whilst generating increased income
    • Training supply that supports new entrant and renewal of competency requirements
    • Recommend, develop and implement new training programs and services
    • Monitor and report on departmental spend, income and throughputs
    • Ensure that data gathered links to BESA CRM, is accurate and supports Association activities
    • Update the Director of Training on the progress of activities
  • Assist in the content development of Association technical/product/service literature and other promotional efforts.
  • Attend meetings of the Associations Specialist Groups as required.
  • Collaboration with other Companies and Partners within the Group.

 

Skills, Experience & Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of working with, and being driven by targets.
  • Experience of managing budgets.
  • Business Leader - Able to demonstrate business acumen and commercial awareness.
  • Strong knowledge of the sector and training, including accredited, approved and industry related training and assessment. Including government and private funded.
  • Experience of competitor analysis.
  • Strategic and operational application of key performance indicators
  • Confidence in reporting information at Government, Operational Board and Committee level
  • Highly developed communication, external liaison and networking skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiarity with a mainstream CRM package, such as Microsoft Dynamics
  • Ability to travel within the UK
  • Hold a full UK driving licence

 

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the building and engineering services industry and facilities management sector, or a specialism within (e.g. electrical or mechanical)
  • Experience of working in a matrix structure

As this role may include contact with Apprentices who may be aged under 18 or possibly classed as vulnerable adults, you will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and reference checks.
