The Association

The Building Engineering Services Association is the UK's leading trade organisation for building engineering services contractors – representing the interests of firms active in the design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, control and management of engineering systems and services in buildings.

 

Director of Membership Key duties

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the post-holder is to provide overall leadership and governance to the membership office and members.

In particular this will include:

  • Contribute to the development of the Association’s strategic plans
  • Responsible for maintaining existing and developing new membership in order to secure revenue targets as determined by the Chief
  • Responsible for securing additional membership growth from within a wider footprint of Professional, Technical, Manufacturing, Supplier and Employment
  • Responsible for the management of the Membership Team; setting objectives for individuals along with KPIs and targets. Develop Personal Development Plans PDPs and monitor progress against strategic group
  • Responsible for managing membership budgets to achieve association’s
  • Responsible for achieving membership targets Key Performance Monitoring of membership development to enable accurate financial monitoring of monthly and yearly revenue derived from membership
  • Provide regular communication with the Association Members and report back development to both the Chief Executive and the
  • Create and identify strategic relationships and create Association B2B relationships with Senior Management within Memberships

 

 

  • Development of an operational strategy that responds to the Groups financial performance requirements (translated from business to team level)
  • To direct the delivery of a programme of membership development in accordance with the Association’s strategic plan and following the guidelines established by the Association
  • To be fully responsible for the implementation, planning and direction of each stage of the membership development process:

 

  • Serve as project manager on all membership initiatives
  • The collection and interpretation of member and non-member information, including member needs, the membership offering, entry criteria, competitiveness and relevance
  • The recruitment of new members and affiliates
  • The membership renewal process
  • To recommend, develop and implement new member programmes and services
  • To monitor and report on departmental spend, income and membership levels
  • To ensure the membership information system is accurate and supports Association activities
  • To update the Chief Executive on the progress of activities

 

  • To be the strategic lead on all regional initiatives and ensure account managers receive support, up to date reports, information and membership data as required
  • Actively increasing memberships to the Association as well as supporting the needs of the current membership
  • Negotiate arrangements  for   adding  member   programmes   created   by   other organisations

 

  • Assist in the content development of Association product/service literature and other promotional efforts

 

  • Assist the Chair of the Membership Committee at meetings, ensuring the meeting format is effective in supporting the achievement of the membership strategic plans

 

  • Attend meetings of the Associations Specialist Groups as required
  • Collaboration with other Companies and Partners within the Group

 

Skills and knowledge

Required

  • Consummate networking and relationship building skills, diplomatic with an ability to engage effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders at all levels

 

  • Ability to combine an understanding of the big picture and a focus on getting the detail right

 

  • Able to thrive under pressure, with the drive and determination to keep lots of plates in the air without losing focus on the important issues

 

  • Strong leadership and management skills with experience of leading a motivated and productive team

 

o  Experience of leading and managing a regional team, geographically spread across the UK; building a supportive culture through team management, coaching, mentoring and the application of other team-building skills.

  • Business Leader able to demonstrate strong business acumen and commercial awareness.

 

  • Significant strategic Business Development leadership experience at a senior level in the membership sector and/or an experienced individual within the Building and Engineering Services Sector

 

  • Ability to communicate, present and influence all levels of the Association, including Board and Committee level

 

  • Demonstrable experience of developing member/client-focused, differentiated and achievable solutions

 

  • Experience of delivering against strategic, financial and operational targets / KPIs with previous ownership of budgets

 

  • Ability to work across functional boundaries to achieve shared Association goals

 

  • Demonstrable skills in statistical and competitor analysis with the ability to spot trends in emerging markets
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Good knowledge of social media platforms
  • Familiarity with a mainstream CRM package, such as Microsoft Dynamics
  • Ability to travel within the UK
  • Hold a full UK driving licence

 

Desirable

  • Knowledge of   the   building  and  engineering  services  industry  and   facilities management sector, or a specialism within (e.g. electrical or mechanical)
  • Experience of working in a membership organisation or similar
  • Experience of working in a matrix structure Personal attributes
