The Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) is the UK's leading trade organisation for building engineering services contractors – representing the interests of firms active in the design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, control and management of engineering systems and services in buildings.

The BESA has a proud heritage, having been established in 1904 as the National Association of Master Heating and Domestic Engineers. BESA’s headquarters are in London, but we are active throughout the UK. We have a separate presence in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as eight regional offices across England. This regional presence facilitates member networking and sharing of best practice, business opportunities and advice on local and national developments.

The Marketing Department

The Marketing & Communication department operates across the association and the subsidiary companies, offering a significant and varied role for the right candidate. We are a progressive and creative team, with a passion for making a difference. We are also award winning, having won Website of the Year (2016) and E-Newsletter of the year (2017), we are currently shortlisted for Membership Event of the Year for our first ever National Conference and have been shortlisted for Magazine of the year (2017) in association awards.


The Role of the Marketing Coordinator

The purpose of this role is to support the delivery of marketing plans and the measurement of activity across the full organisation (8 companies/products). Very hands on, and quite digitally focussed, it will involve communicating with members, prospects and the wider market in order to market specific products or companies. The projects and tasks that you work on will have direct impact on raising the profile of the respective companies and products, ultimately creating leads and opportunities for the group.

This position will report to the Marketing Manager.

Key Duties

  • Responsible for the timely updates to a range of websites using a content management system (Umbraco)
  • E-mail design, copywriting, dissemination and reporting via Mailchimp – including member updates, event invitations and a whole range of marketing emails.
  • Ownership of the bi-monthly e-newsletter production, dissemination and reporting
  • Writing, scheduling, dissemination and reporting of social media activity (primarily LinkedIn and Twitter)
  • Responsible for dissemination of press releases
  • Briefing in creative design work and copywriting requirements to agencies
  • Marketing dashboard creation, taking metrics from campaigns, social, press activity etc.
  • Support the team in delivering integrated marketing campaigns across traditional and digital media

Other Duties

No job description can cover every issue, which may arise within the post at various times.  The post-holder is therefore expected to carry out other duties as required by their line manager from time to time, which are broadly consistent with those in this document.

Qualification, Knowledge & Experience


  • At least 1 years’ experience in a marketing role
  • Demonstrated experience of running e-marketing campaigns (preferably using Mailchimp)
  • Demonstrated experience of web content management (preferably using Umbraco)
  • Experience of managing social media accounts for businesses
  • Track record of managing creative agencies
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Have a good working knowledge of Excel and Word


  • Experience of B2B as well as B2C markets
  • Experience of designing materials such as flyers, programmes, banners etc.
  • Copywriting experience

  • Have a demonstrated ability to work under their own initiative
