The Association

The Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) is the UK's leading trade organisation for building engineering services contractors – representing the interests of firms active in the design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, control and management of engineering systems and services in buildings.

The BESA has a proud heritage, having been established in 1904 as the National Association of Master Heating and Domestic Engineers. BESA’s headquarters are in London, but we are active throughout the UK. We have a separate presence in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as eight regional offices across England. This regional presence facilitates member networking and sharing of best practice, business opportunities and advice on local and national developments.

The Marketing Department

The Marketing department operates across the association and the subsidiary companies. The team is responsible for the promotion and marketing of the Building Engineering Services Association, its subsidiary businesses and services, as well as the organising and running of events across the group. This will be a busy and varied role for the right candidate.


The Role of the Marketing & Events Executive


The purpose of this role is to support the delivery of high quality, professional events which help to raise the profile of the association, engage members and the industry and generate a return on investment. Supporting both the marketing manager and the events manager, the role will be varied as at any one time there will be a number of events being planned. Very hands on, it will involve the running of events as well as the promotion of them to members, prospects and the wider market.

Key Duties


  • Responsible for the drafting and sending of invitations and reminders for events via mailchimp (and occasionally hard copy)
  • Liaise with the events manager to support the organisation and hosting of events e.g. trade shows, conferences, gala dinners etc. Activities are likely to include event logistics (couriers etc), handling attendee questions, filling in event paperwork and ensuring staff representatives are briefed
  • Liaise with the marketing manager to ensure suitable marketing and promotion of events take place – to include the design and sourcing of promotional and marketing materials (leaflets, brochures etc.)
  • E-mail design, copywriting, dissemination and reporting via Mailchimp
  • Liaising with venues, caterers and speakers as necessary
  • Attend events as and when required, ensuring everything runs smoothly

Other Duties

No job description can cover every issue which may arise within the post at various times.  The post-holder is therefore expected to carry out other duties as required by their line manager from time to time which are broadly consistent with those in this document.

Qualification, Knowledge & Experience


  • Previous experience in event marketing and management
  • Demonstrated experience of running e-marketing campaigns (preferably using Mailchimp)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Familiar with Eventbrite


  • B2B communications experience
  • Copywriting experience
  • Design skills (InDesign or equivalent)
  • Experience of web content management (preferably using Umbraco)

  • Have a track record of juggling multiple priorities
  • Be organised with strong attention to detail
  • Be customer focused when carrying out their work
  • Have a demonstrated ability to work under their own initiative, whilst keeping stakeholders updated
