The Association

The Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) is the UK's leading trade organisation for building engineering services contractors – representing the interests of firms active in the design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, control and management of engineering systems and services in buildings.


The Marketing Department

The Marketing department operates across the association and the subsidiary companies, offering a significant and varied role for the right candidate. The team is responsible for the promotion and marketing of the Building Engineering Services Association, its subsidiary businesses and services, as well as the organising and running of events across the group.

The Role of the Marketing Manager

The purpose of the role is to define and deliver marketing plans and measure subsequent activity – it will be a mix of project work as well as ongoing responsibilities for the marketing of specific products or companies.  The projects and tasks that you work on will have a direct impact on the raising the profile of the respective companies, ultimately creating leads and opportunities for the group.

Initially the intention is for this role to take ownership of Welplan as a priority but also one or two other group brands.

Key Duties

  • Development of marketing strategy & planning for their allocated group businesses
  • Execution of all agreed activities for their allocated group businesses
  • Management of the budget for their allocated group businesses
  • Leading marketing projects and delivering the marketing work stream in company-wide projects
  • Brand definition, ownership and execution for their allocated group businesses
  • Ownership of activities across the full mix including:
    • Creative brief development
    • Copywriting
    • Website content management
    • On and offline promotional activity (including social media) etc.
    • Paid and earned channels
  • Campaign development, delivery and monitoring
  • Budget control
  • Agency relationship management

Other Duties

No job description can cover every issue which may arise within the post at various times.  The post-holder is therefore expected to carry out other duties as required by their line manager from time to time which are broadly consistent with those in this document.

Qualification, Knowledge & Experience


  • Marketing Degree OR experience of working in a marketing role for at least 5 years
  • Demonstrated experience of developing, driving and executing marketing strategies which achieve marketing and campaign objectives
  • Track record of delivering projects and campaigns across the full marketing mix
  • Experienced at managing multiple priorities (ideally brands or products) at once
  • Track record of managing internal stakeholders e.g. product owners and external service providers e.g. agencies


  • At least 1 year in a management position
  • Experience of B2B as well as B2C markets
  • Knowledge and experience of using Mailchimp or similar mail service
  • Knowledge and experience of using Umbraco or similar content management system
  • Experience of people management
  • Experience of managing social media accounts for businesses
  • Experience in the Construction sector would be an advantage
  • Have experience of using design packages such as the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience of marketing FCA products

  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and should enjoy and be skilled at copywriting
  • Have demonstrated ability to work under their own initiative
  • Strong stakeholder management
  • Skilled at prioritising work (self and team)
  • Sound decision making skills
  • Be customer focused when carrying out their work
  • Be organised with strong attention to detail
  • Have experience of creating visually compelling PowerPoint presentations
  • Have a good working knowledge of Excel and Word
  • Enjoy learning new skills
