The Association

The Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) is the UK's leading trade organisation for building engineering services contractors – representing the interests of firms active in the design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, control and management of engineering systems and services in buildings. 

The BESA has a proud heritage, having been established in 1904 as the National Association of Master Heating and Domestic Engineers. BESA’s headquarters are in London, but we are active throughout the UK. We have a separate presence in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as eight regional offices across England. This regional presence facilitates member networking and sharing of best practice, business opportunities and advice on local and national developments.

One of the key BESA Group Companies is Welplan, which has been operating since 1960 and has been providing a workplace pension scheme since 1988. The Marketing Department

The Marketing department operates across the association and the subsidiary companies, offering a significant and varied role for the right candidate. The team is responsible for the promotion and marketing of the Building Engineering Services Association, its subsidiary businesses and services, as well as the organising and running of events across the group.

The Role of the Marketing Manager

The purpose of the role is to define and deliver marketing plans and measure subsequent activity – it will be a mix of project work as well as ongoing responsibilities for the marketing of specific products or companies.  The projects and tasks that you work on will have a direct impact on the raising the profile of the respective companies, ultimately creating leads and opportunities for the group. This role would be responsible for a number of the BESA Group companies, initially Welplan, REFCOM, Skillcard and BESCA but which companies the Manager is responsible for could change over time.

Key Duties

  • Marketing strategy & planning and execution of activities
  • Leading marketing projects and delivering the marketing work stream in company-wide projects
  • Brand strategy definition and execution
  • Ownership of activities across the full mix including:
    • Creative brief development
    • Copywriting
    • Website content management
    • On and offline promotional activity (including social media) etc.
  • Campaign development, delivery and monitoring
  • Budget control
  • Agency relationship management
  • Compliance with statutory requirements

Other Duties

No job description can cover every issue, which may arise within the post at various times.  The post-holder is therefore expected to carry out other duties as required by their line manager from time to time, which are broadly consistent with those in this document.

Qualification, Knowledge & Experience


  • Marketing Degree OR experience of working in a marketing role for at least 3 years
  • Demonstrated experience of developing and executing marketing strategies which achieve marketing and campaign objectives
  • Track record of delivering projects and campaigns across the full marketing mix
  • Experienced at managing multiple priorities (ideally brands or products) at once
  • Track record of managing internal stakeholders e.g. product owners and external service providers e.g. agencie


  • Experience of B2B as well as B2C markets
  • Experience in the Financial Services Market
  • Knowledge and experience of using Mailchimp
  • Knowledge and experience of using Umbraco
  • Experience of people management
  • Experience of managing social media accounts for businesses
  • Experience in the Construction sector would be an advantage

  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and should enjoy and be skilled at copywriting
  • Have demonstrated ability to work under their own initiative

  • Sound decision making skills

  • Be organised with strong attention to detail
  • Have experience of creating visually compelling PowerPoint presentations
  • Have a good working knowledge of Excel and Word
  • Enjoy learning new skills
