The Association

The Building and Engineering Services Association (BESA) is a UK-based trade and employers’ association that provides services to and represents the interests of 1,200 organisations.

BESA members are UK firms active in the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of building and engineering services, products and equipment.

The Technical Department

The Technical Department offers direct access to guidance to members on technical and health and safety matters which relate to activities within the building services sector and also to the wider construction sector.

For example on:

  • British and European Standards
  • Industry guidance and good practice
  • Environmental issues
  • Sustainability
  • Quality assurance
  • Technical standards

BESA publishes a range of codes of practice relating to specific technical and health and safety aspects that are widely respected

The Department also assists members with H&S issues, from guidance in establishing safety management systems, preparing health & safety policies or information on new and existing regulations and expert guidance on current best practice.

 

The Role of Product Manager

The post holder is responsible to The Head of Compliance.

To develop and manage the infrastructure that underpins the compliance products. This includes IT, Databases, business processes.

 

Key duties

In particular these will include:

  • Improve existing processes to drive efficiency gains that allow greater sales volume
  • Work with the Head of Compliance to create the new compliance service products. Being responsible for the IT, integration and backend operations that underpin the product.
  • Integrate 3rd party software products in to the business and products.
  • Document workflows and results of business/process analysis and review with all stakeholders.
  • Provide product expertise to communicate product features and functionality to the CPM and commercial teams.
  • Provide validation of Use Cases and Acceptance Criteria.
  • Document acceptance criteria – Be able to communicate and document a clear and concise set of acceptance criteria at the Epic and Story requirement level.
  • Provide final feature and product sign-off and acceptance before release.
  • Realise and implement the trade-offs required in definition and technology development cycles.
  • Support faster product and development cycles to facilitate competitive advantage. Apply necessary methods to break down large ideas into more palatable chunks that enable faster delivery of value.
  • Be able to apply methods that will help design incremental deliverables to deliver the most value in the shortest time.
  • Responsible for reviewing change requests and acceptance of changes into the product backlog.
  • Work with the Project Manager or Delivery Owner to ensure the right communication occurs for delivery progress, challenges and release dates to applicable CPMs, stakeholders, customers and senior leadership.

 

Skills, knowledge and experience 

Required

  • Software development life cycle (not necessarily coding)
  • Compliance product development
  • UKAS/ISO audit and certification systems
  • Business analyst
  • Understanding of MS SQL server
  • Understanding of API
  • Cloud Azure experience
  • Agile and Scrum work methods and environment.

 

Other Duties

No job description can cover every issue which may arise within the post at various times.  The post-holder is therefore expected to carry out other duties as required by their line manager from time to time which are broadly consistent with those in this document.
