We are returning after a two year COVID break 

The BESA National Awards will be presented on the 20 October, at a sparkling celebration at the Novotel London West

They are FREE to enter and will reward the individual, team and companies responsible for delivering projects, products, innovations and initiatives that demonstrate building services excellence.

We will also be finding out who will be crowned the National Winner from the heats which have been taking place across the regions and devolved nations earlier in 2022.

Specialist Groups Award for Excellence (Member only)

About:

This award will recognise an individual that has demonstrated an outstanding contribution and commitment to achieving high technical standards within their specialism. This evidence will be based on leadership, commitment to best practice and implementation of advanced technology and processes.

What the judges are looking for:

The judges will be looking for a member from one of the BESA Specialist Groups that have achieved a high level of excellence, are meeting and exceeding clients’ expectations, have demonstrated a significant contribution to the professionalism and show an outstanding contribution to the industry within their specialist area.

You'll be asked to outline, in no more than 500 words, why you or the person you are nominating are a worthy recipient of the Specialists Groups Award for excellence. Within this answer please also include the following:

  • A description of the specific project(s), initiative or service that demonstrates the outstanding contribution to building services
  • An example of how you or the person you are nominating have actively contributed to the specialism over the last 2 years

What supporting documents we need:

Net Zero Initiative of the Year (Open to all)

About:

This award is open to any company or individual who has demonstrated a commitment to the UK’s target of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. This commitment can take the form of delivering a project with strong net zero credentials, producing an innovative technology, process or methodology that advances net zero, or a wider initiative such as developing training or addressing corporate culture.

Entries may either focus on work for clients or on initiatives taken to embed a net zero culture in the entrant's own company and/or supply chains.

What the judges are looking for:

The judges will be looking for; the outcomes of net zero initiatives and evidence of success, innovation in carbon reduction techniques and practices.

What to include in your entry:

You'll be asked to outline, in no more than 500 words, why you or the person/company you are nominating are a worthy recipient of this award. Within this answer please also include the following:

  • A description of the initiative and how it has advanced the net zero agenda
  • An explanation of how the carbon reduction challenge has been addressed and provide as much evidence as possible to support your claim

Small Budget Project of the Year…under £500,000K (Member only)

About:

Open to all UK projects with a budget value under £500,000, that have achieved practical completion, or equivalent, between Jan 2020 and Jan 2022. This category celebrates the best of building services, and the entry should reflect that.

What the judges are looking for:

The judges will be looking for evidence of: client satisfaction, project excellence, health and safety performance, sustainability, completion on time / early and to budget, supply chain best practice and innovation.

What to include in your entry:

You'll be asked to outline, in no more than 500 words, why this project is a worthy recipient of the Small Budget Project of the Year. Within this answer please also include the following:

  • Details of the timing, budget and client's satisfaction with the project
  • Details of your health and safety record

What supporting documents we need:

Big Budget Project of the Year…over £500,000K (Member only)

About:

Open to all UK projects with a budget value over £1 million, that achieved practical completion, or equivalent, between Jan 2020 and Jan 2022. This category celebrates the best of building services, and the entry should reflect that.

The judges will be looking for evidence of: client satisfaction, project excellence, health and safety performance, Sustainability, completion on time / early and to budget, supply chain best practice and innovation.

You'll be asked to outline, in no more than 500 words, why this project is a worthy recipient of the Big Budget Project of the Year. Within this answer please also include the following:

  • Details of the timing, budget and client's satisfaction with the project

Product Innovation of the Year (Open all)

About:

This category is open to innovative new products and emerging technologies that provide solutions for existing market needs. The product must be available on the UK market by January 2022.

Who will be choosing the winner:

The winner of this award is voted on by BESA members! We will be asking members to decide on the winning entry. 

What to include in your entry:

You'll be asked to outline, in no more than 500 words, why this product is a worthy recipient of the Product Innovation of the Year. Within this answer please also include the following:

  • A description of the key ways that your innovative product or technology has been tested, trialled and proven to be 'fit for purpose'
  • An outline of how your product or technology is being used as a solution to a current market need
  • Demonstrate that the product or emerging technology meet the appropriate UK building regulations and health and safety standards.

The Manly Trust Management Training Bursary (Member only)

About:

This award is open to any apprentice currently working for a BESA member who shows a high level of promise and would, in the opinion of their employer and the judging panel, benefit from additional training to develop management skills that could equip them for a senior role in the future.

The successful nominee will be fully funded by the Manly Charitable Trust to undertake a management course assessed by BESA and the Trust as suitable for meeting the aims of the award and the needs of the successful candidate.

What to include in your entry:

You'll be asked to outline, in no more than 500 words, why you or the person you are nominating are a worthy recipient of the Manly Trust Management Training Bursary. Within this answer please also include the following:

  • A description of why you think you or your nominee would benefit from management training
  • An example of how they have demonstrated leadership/management potential

What supporting documents we need:

Please support your nomination with a high resolution head shot of the nominee and a CV/biography of nominee

Women in Building Services Award (Open to all)

About:

This category is open to BESA members and non-members. You can nominate someone or enter yourself.

What the judges are looking for:

This award is to recognise the outstanding women in the building services sector. The Judges are looking for the person that has best demonstrated a positive impact in areas of sustainability and innovation. An inspiring person who champions the sector and who drives positive change on projects or within their organisations. 

What to include in your entry:

You'll be asked to outline, in no more than 500 words, why you or the person you are nominating are a worthy recipient of the Women in Building Engineering Services award. Within this answer please also include the following:

  • A description of the specific project(s), initiative or service that demonstrates the outstanding contribution to building services

What supporting documents we need:

Please support your nomination with a high resolution head shot and a CV/biography of nominee

Diversity and Inclusion Initiative Award (Open to all)

About:

The building services sector is embracing the need to encourage women, ethnic minorities and people with disabilities and this award seeks to recognise the progress being made on sites, offices, and branches in improving inclusion in all its forms.

The Diversity and Inclusion Award is open to companies who have introduced initiatives that help promote the role of women or encourage diversity and inclusivity in other ways, such as ‘neurodiversity’ or thinking differently.

What the judges are looking for:

Judges will be looking for innovation, expertise and success in all areas including the following:

  • Commitment to recruiting, advancing and progressing all employees (within your organisation and/or industry in general) regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion or disability
  • Demonstrating initiatives to advance policies that promote diversity, equity, & inclusion
  • Proactive leadership in engaging with and serving your diverse membership
  • Feedback - internal and external

What to include in your entry:

You'll be asked to outline, in no more than 500 words, why this company are a worthy recipient of this award. Within this answer please also include the following:

  • Give background on the company and he reasons why it is suitable for winning.
  • Include any research, evidence, strategies and/or feedback that corroborate this statement.
  • Explain how the company and profession have benefitted from any recent improvements.

Competence and Compliance Award (open to all)

About

This Award will recognise a company that has demonstrated a drive towards competence and compliance within the building services sector.

The Award is open to companies to nominate themselves and BESA can also put forward companies that it recognises as being deserving of nomination for the award.

What the judges are looking for

The judges are looking for case study evidence that highlights how a company is demonstrating its competence and compliance

What to include in your entry

Please outline, in no more than 1000 words, how  your company demonstrates its drive towards being a competent and compliant organisation. Please include specific examples e.g.

  • The accreditations your company has (such as BESA membership, ISO, CHAS, ConstructionLine, Investors in People etc);
  • Any audit processes utilized by your company
  • Your commitment to the training, skills and development of your people to ensure competent and compliant individuals
