You will learn a wide range of skills to enable you to diagnose why a system has failed and be able to repair it. This can include things like fixing machinery, testing or fitting parts, calibrating instruments or repairing equipment breakdowns.

This is a very varied line of work, with no two days the same. You will travel around to client sites, which will often be occupied, meaning you will need to carry out your work with minimum disruption for the customer. Health and safety requirements are an important aspect of the job and will form a large part of your training.

The service and maintenance apprenticeship course takes two years to reach Level 2 and a further two years if you continue to Level 3. You will have day or block release to college or a training centre.
