DOMESTIC HEATING ENGINEER

APPRENTICESHIP LEVEL & DURATION:

Level 2: 12-24 months

Level 3: 12-24 months (following completion of L2)

CAREER PATHWAY: Supervisor

This apprenticeship framework will be withdrawn in April 2018 and will be replaced by the Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician Trailblazer for England only. For apprentices currently on this programme they will continue until completion. This apprenticeship is only available in England.

 

JOB ROLE/DESCRIPTION

A building services domestic heating engineer installs and repairs hot and cold water heating systems, including boilers, controls, pipework and radiators.
The work is usually in people’s homes but can include shops and block housing accommodation as well, in both occupied and unoccupied premises.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

It is desirable to achieve this apprenticeship you will need English and Maths at level 2 or GCSE Grade C, and Information Communication Technology at Level 1 or GCSE Grade D. If you do not have these we can organise delivery prior to the apprenticeship commencing.

WHAT WILL THE PROGRAMME ENTAIL?

Apprentices will study towards the Level 2 and Level 3 Building Services Domestic Heating Engineer qualification, which includes knowledge tests, practical assignments and production of a portfolio of evidence.

WHAT IS AN APPRENTICESHIP?

An apprenticeship is a real job with training, enabling you to earn whilst you learn. You will gain qualifications, which are recognised worldwide as well as a vast range of job-specific skills.
As an apprentice you will:

  • work alongside experienced staff
  • gain skills specific to your job
  • earn a wage and receive holiday pay
  • study towards a qualification either at college or a training centre for at least one day a week.

IS AN APPRENTICESHIP RIGHT FOR YOU?

  • aged 16 and over
  • living in England
  • not in full-time education - you can apply whilst you are still at school but you will need to have left before starting your apprenticeship
  • you will need to have an employer before you start an apprenticeship. BESA Training will try to help those of you who don’t have an employer placement.

Congratulations on completing your apprenticeship. As a qualified Building Services Domestic Heating Engineer you will be able to pursue your career in the Building Services industry.
