JOB ROLE/DESCRIPTION

This apprenticeship covers all aspects of service, maintenance and commissioning of Building Services Engineering systems including; heating, hot and cold water storage and distribution systems, air conditioning and ventilation, gas installations and appliances, oil installations and electrical building services control systems.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Apprentices must be an employee of a company in the industrial and commercial Building Services Engineering sector as on site training and production of site evidence are required as part of the course.

WHAT WILL THE COURSE COVER?

  • Service, maintain and commission forced draught, natural draught, pressure jet gas and oil fired appliances
  • Inspect, test and purge gas installations to IGE UP1B, IGE UP 1A, IGE UP1 and IGE UP2
  • Service, maintain and commission direct and indirect air heaters, radiant tube heaters and plaque heaters
  • Diagnose and rectify faults on building services engineering electrical control systems and components
  • Service, maintain and commission air conditioning and ventilation systems
  • Service, maintain and commission refrigerant systems
  • Service, maintain and commission LTHW, MTHW, HTHW and steam heating systems
  • Service, maintain and commission hot and cold water installations to include Control of Legionellosis
  • Installation, service, maintenance and commissioning principles of a range of renewable systems
  • Undertake minor pipe work and electrical installation works
  • Apply health and safety and environmental legislation and working practices in relation of Building Services Engineering.

WHAT IS A MODERN APPRENTICESHIP?

A modern apprenticeship is a real job with training, enabling you to earn whilst you learn. You will gain qualifications, which are recognised worldwide as well as a vast range of job-specific skills.

As an apprentice you will:

  • work alongside experienced staff
  • gain skills specific to your job
  • earn a wage and receive holiday pay
  • study towards a qualification either at college or a training centre for at least one day a week.

IS A MODERN APPRENTICESHIP RIGHT FOR YOU?

  • aged 16 and over
  • living in Scotland
  • not in full-time education - you can apply whilst you are still at school but you will need to have left before starting your apprenticeship
  • you will need to have an employer before you start an apprenticeship. BESA Training will try to help those of you who don’t have an employer placement.

qualifications on SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION

As an integral part of the course, candidates receive training preparing them to complete additional professional competency courses including ACS Commercial Gas, Control of Legionellosis, IEE 17th Edition, F Gas (Category 1), Brazing, Unvented Hot Water and OFTEC Oil. With the exception of the Legionellosis course, these courses incur an assessment only cost to the employer, invoiced by the college at the time of delivery.
