JOB ROLE/DESCRIPTION

The apprentices will undertake the SVQ 3 in Mechanical Engineering Services: Heating and Ventilating Installation. Apprentices will also take units in heating and ventilating planning, systems installation, systems commissioning, safe working, quality development and effective working relationships. In years 3 and 4 apprentices will cover site procedures and common welding technology, both metal arc welding practice and oxy acetylene welding practice.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Apprentices must be an employee of a company in the H&V industry as on site training and assessment are required as part of the course.

  • Industrial, commercial and domestic
  • Training on Safe Use of Plant Tools and Equipment
  • Installing Copper Piping to BS 2871
  • Installing Low Carbon Steel Piping to BS 1387
  • Installation and Design Requirements of Low/ Medium/High Temperature Hot Water Heating Systems
  • Installation and Design Requirements of Heat Emitters
  • Basic Electrical Theory
  • Hot and Cold Water Services Installation and Design Requirements
  • Oil Supply System Installation Requirements
  • Risk Assessment Techniques
  • Health and Safety in the Workplace
  • Welding Technology, Oxy/Acetylene Welding, MMA Welding
  • Weld Testing to BESCA Standards
  • Hydraulic and Pneumatic Testing of Pipelines
  • Heating Controls Theory, Installation of Pressurisation Units.

WHAT IS A MODERN APPRENTICESHIP?

A modern apprenticeship is a real job with training, enabling you to earn whilst you learn. You will gain qualifications, which are recognised worldwide as well as a vast range of job-specific skills.

As an apprentice you will:

  • work alongside experienced staff
  • gain skills specific to your job
  • earn a wage and receive holiday pay
  • study towards a qualification either at college or a training centre for at least one day a week.

IS A MODERN APPRENTICESHIP RIGHT FOR YOU?

  • aged 16 and over
  • living in Scotland
  • not in full-time education - you can apply whilst you are still at school but you will need to have left before starting your apprenticeship
  • you will need to have an employer before you start an apprenticeship. BESA Training will try to help those of you who don’t have an employer placement.

QUALIFICATIONS ON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION

Provisional BESCA license on successful completion of testing to BESCA standards.
