Our various courses provide all levels of employees within the building engineering services sector with a framework for health & safety training and career development.

Our range of BESA accredited training courses are aimed at someone new to the industry right through to those responsible for managing construction work and directorship level.

Recognised by the CSCS and SKILLcard membership schemes.  Approved to meet the requirements of Level 1, Health and Safety in the Construction Environment, Site Operative Safety provides individuals new to industry, the health and safety basics for working in the construction environment in readiness to undertake the touch-screen CSCS health and safety test, a requirement for the application to SKILLcard for a ‘Trainee’ or ‘Mate’ card.

Site Operative Safety (SOS)

WHO IS IT FOR?

For those individuals who are about to or have just begun working in the industry, to understand the potential hazards they may face on site and the importance of health and safety matters affecting themselves and others.

COURSE OVERVIEW

The course consists of a formal training presentation with participant inter-action and group exercises.  It provides a practical summary of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues, identifying the delegate’s responsibility for looking after themselves and others; outlines the employer’s duties; and explains what should be done if the worker thinks anyone’s health and safety is being put at risk.

Topics covered include:

  • Knowing the principles of risk assessment for maintaining health and safety at work
  • Knowing the importance of safe manual handling in the workplace
  • Knowing the importance of working safely at height in the workplace
  • Knowing risks to health within a construction environment
  • Knowing the importance of working around plant and equipment safely

Following completion of the training presentation and group exercises, knowledge and understanding is confirmed by successful completion of a multiple choice question paper at the end of the course.  Involvement and interaction during the course will also be taken into account as a measure of knowledge and understanding.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

COURSE DURATION

This is a one day course (6 hours) with assessment test (1 hour).  Individuals are required to attend for the full duration of the training and assessment process.

FINAL ASSESSMENT

Following successful assessment outcome, operatives will receive a BESA Training Certificate of Assessment and an Operative card. 

Note: The Certificate of Assessment is a pre-requisite requirement to undertake the CSCS touch-screen test required prior to applying for a SKILLcard.
