VHR Air is a new work type from the Ventilation Hygiene Register (VHR), developed to recognise ventilation hygiene work carried out in line with the BESA TR19® Air Specification.

Launching on Tuesday 3 March 2026, VHR Air provides contractors with a clear, trusted way to certify ventilation system cleans, demonstrating competence and compliance in line with BESA TR19® Air.

As expectations around indoor air quality (IAQ), building safety and system performance continue to rise, clients, insurers and duty-holders are demanding clearer evidence of how ventilation hygiene has been completed, who delivered it, and which recognised standards it aligns to.

VHR Air is a dedicated certification pathway for contractors delivering general ventilation hygiene services.

Who is VHR Air for?

VHR Air is designed for contractors who deliver ventilation hygiene cleaning and inspection works in line with the BESA TR19® Air Specification, including:

  • Ventilation ductwork and mechanical systems
  • Air handling units (AHUs) and associated airside components
  • Air conditioning (airside) systems linked to air distribution
  • Supply, extract and general ventilation systems
