JOB ROLE/DESCRIPTION

Building Services Engineering Technician is associated with the supervision of the installation, commissioning or servicing of environmental technologies on construction projects and are based on construction sites with occasional time in offices. Main duties and tasks include assisting design teams with building services engineering solutions on construction projects, supervision of specialist contractors and control of health and safety on projects. 

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTs

The typical entry requirements for this apprenticeship will be five GCSEs or equivalent, including Maths, English and a Science grade 4-9 (C or above); or a Level 2 Apprenticeship. 

It is desirable to achieve this apprenticeship you will need English and Maths at level 2 or GCSE Grade 4-9 (C or above). If you do not have these, they can be organised prior to the apprenticeship commencing.

Apprentices will study towards the Building Services Engineering Technician qualification, which includes the following knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs):

These will be demonstrated through knowledge tests, practical assignments and submission of a record of work-based activities, followed by an endpoint assessment.

 

WHEN WILL THE ASSESSMENTS TAKE PLACE?

The employer, advised by the training provider, will decide when the apprentice has demonstrated the necessary knowledge, skills and behaviours during the on-programme learning and confirm they are ready to access the End Point Assessment. 

The apprentice will also need to have achieved: 

  • Completion of Level 4 qualification in Construction and the Built Environment as specified in the Standard 
  • English and Maths at level 2 or GCSE Grade 4-9 (C or above). 

 

WHAT IS THE ASSESSMENT?

The End Point Assessment tests the expertise built up over the period of the apprenticeship. It includes: 

Presentation - supported by a technical project brief which will be graded 

Structured Interview - is informed by a written report, which will not be marked as part of this assessment method 

 

SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION

Following the successful completion of this apprenticeship, you will gain a Level 4 qualification in Construction and Built Environment that meets the knowledge requirements of the standard and is approved by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers as meeting the educational requirements for EngTech LCIBSE.
