Industry Awards Project Categories
Have you recently completed, or been involved in a stand out project?
The BESA Industry Awards recognise and reward excellence in the building engineering services sector, this year we're looking for entries that demonstrate a commitment to Net Zero, the Building Safety Act and collaboration. We have five categories to enter
Background
This category recognises a project or series of projects that have made a significant contribution to the health, well-being, and productivity of building occupants by working to improve Indoor Air Quality (IAQ). This could either be through exceptional work in one project, a series of projects, or through an innovative technical development or practice.
Key areas that the judges are looking for:
-
You should be able to describe the nature of the project(s) and how you believe it/they has/have improved the outcome for building occupants/clients.
-
Provide details of the problems you encountered, how you assessed and addressed the IAQ challenge and what innovations were used. It might also be helpful to explain what standards you worked towards and why.
Background
Open to all UK projects with a budget value over £500K, that achieved practical completion, or equivalent, between Jan 2023 and Jan 2024. This category celebrates the best of building services, and the entry should reflect that.
Key areas that the judges are looking for:
-
Entries should demonstrate how Net Zero has been considered.
-
They should also be able to provide evidence of how the requirements of the Building Safety Act were considered and implemented.
-
They should also provide details of health and safety performance as well as competence and compliance.
-
Showcase how best practice and innovation has been used.

-
The entry should be able to demonstrate how carbon reduction was considered from the outset and built into the project design; what techniques and technologies were used to achieve operational and embodied carbon reduction; and how the project team met its goals including best practice installation, commissioning, and ongoing operation.
Project of the Year - Retrofit
Background
Open to all retrofit or refurbishment projects completed by Jan 2024. This category is designed to showcase the crucial role played by building engineering improvements and upgrades in addressing comfort, health & wellbeing, and carbon reduction.
Key areas that the judges are looking for:
-
The judges will be looking for evidence of how this project demonstrably improved the performance of an existing building or facility and met the goals of the client and occupants.
