Breathing New Life: How DIY SOS and a tailored ventilation system transformed family life
Garry Ratcliffe, CEO, The Golden Thread Alliance
Gary, of the Golden Thread Alliance, a multi-academy foundation of nine primary schools in Kent., opens Ventil8 Day with a deeply moving and inspiring story.
Drawing on his experience with the BBC’s DIY SOS Big Build—where his family’s home was demolished and rebuilt in just over a week—Garry will explore how installing a bespoke ventilation system has dramatically improved life for his children, three of whom have complex disabilities.
This session will delve into the technical, emotional, and inclusive aspects of home design, showcasing how thoughtful engineering can empower families. Participants will gain insights into collaborative project delivery, inclusive environment design, and the human impact of innovative ventilation solutions.
